The short version

This website does not use cookies, analytics or trackers. It stores one small preference (light or dark theme) in your own browser. The Fathom app runs on your computer and has no accounts, no servers of ours, and sends nothing to us.

What stays on your computer

Your files, the search results, proof pictures, chat history, settings, history of changes and the safety copies used for undo are all stored on your own PC (by default in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Fathom, or wherever you moved it). API keys are encrypted with your Windows account.

When data leaves your computer

• The assistant with an online AI service. If you choose an online service (such as Anthropic, OpenAI or another provider), the messages you type or speak, files and pictures you attach, and, if you press “Watch my screen”, screenshots of your screen are sent to that service, under its terms and privacy policy. Using a local model (Ollama) keeps everything on your PC.
• Voice. By default, speech is turned into text on your PC. If you have no local speech engine and saved an OpenAI key, recordings are sent to that service. If neither, the voice typing built into your browser engine may be used, which can send audio to the browser's speech provider.
• Web search and web pages. When the assistant searches the web or opens a page, that request goes to the website. You can switch this off in Settings.
• Server mode. If you start Fathom in server mode so other devices can use it, those devices connect to your computer using a private link. Anyone with that link can see the folders Fathom can see, so keep it secret and use it only on networks you trust or through a VPN. Nothing is sent to us.
• Sync, Torrent and downloads. These talk to the servers or peers you choose.
• Installation. The first-run setup downloads programs and models from their official sources (for example Python, FFmpeg, language models).
• Problem reports. “Save a problem report” only creates a zip of log files in your Downloads folder. Nothing is sent unless you send it yourself. Logs contain file names but not file contents or keys.

Your control

The assistant asks before changing files (you choose how strict). Screen watching is off until you press it and can be stopped at any time; screenshots are not saved by Fathom. You can delete chats, the change history and the safety copies inside the app.
